The Tomahawk Tiger Sapphire

A Queensland legend. A family legacy.

The legendary Tomahawk Tiger sapphire rough (82.4 carats) displays striking “tiger” stripes of yellow and green.

In 1976, a local schoolboy’s lucky strike at Tomahawk Creek unearthed a sapphire that would become the stuff of legend (e-rocks.com). Now known as the Tomahawk Tiger, this 82.4-carat marvel – a rare parti-colored sapphire – was named for its bold tiger-like bands of golden yellow and deep green (fmcgems.com) and the Tomahawk Creek location where it was found. Gemologists hail it as the finest multi-colored sapphire crystal ever discovered (centralqueenslandhighlands.com.au). Over the years, the Tiger’s fame only grew. The gem was even stolen at one point and later dramatically recovered (e-rocks.com—crossing continents as a million-dollar treasure along the way. Today, it remains safely in the Richardson family’s hands (abc.net.au), a cherished heirloom and a dazzling piece of Queensland’s sapphire history.

The Stonebridge Sapphire

This 202-carat uncut parti sapphire showcases vibrant bands of royal blue and forest green, earning it global recognition as one of the largest and most visually striking sapphires ever found.

Stolen, recovered, and passed through hands from Australia to New York, the sapphire eventually returned home, now safeguarded within the Richardson family’s private collection. Celebrated for its size, colour zoning, and rich backstory, the Stonebridge is considered priceless — a true symbol of Australia's sapphire legacy and a centerpiece of the Richardson Rare Stones archive.

The Eiffel Tower Sapphire

A natural marvel with striking greens and architectural elegance

Sculptural and striking, the Eiffel Tower Sapphire is a natural crystal formation whose silhouette echoes the architectural elegance of its namesake. Rising to a pointed apex and tapering down in near-symmetrical planes, this sapphire’s form is a geological wonder — a visual homage to the iconic structure it was named after.

Displaying deep indigo-blue hues with shadowed green undertones, the stone evokes a twilight skyline, its surface dancing with light along clean, angular lines. Though uncut, it possesses a natural symmetry and structure rarely seen in rough sapphires. The Eiffel Tower Sapphire is part of the Richardson family’s heirloom collection, preserved for its form, rarity, and visual poetry — a gemstone that feels both designed and untouched.
